From morning teas to musical performances, fitness sessions to gardening gatherings – if you're a community group looking to host a local Victorian Seniors Festival event, a Positive Ageing grant can assist.

Surf Coast Shire Council is inviting not-for-profit community groups, clubs and organisations to apply for Positive Ageing grants of up to $200. The grants are for local events and activities to be held as part of the 2019 Victorian Seniors Festival – from 6 to 13 October.

Mayor Rose Hodge said the grants were a great opportunity to recognise older people living in the Surf Coast.

"The Victorian Seniors Festival is an annual celebration of people aged 55 and over," Cr Hodge said. "It's also a chance to for the whole community to get out there and connect socially."

"We're excited to see what fantastic events community groups are planning to host.

"Last year there was an art exhibition, garden and coastal walks, high tea, games day and much more, spread across the coast and hinterland. I'm sure there will be a diverse range again this year. We hope that we can support activities with a grant."
