- More than $107,000 allocated to preserve Aboriginal cultural heritage across the Mid West and Gascoyne regions
- Three projects funded through the Preserve, Promote and Protect our Aboriginal Sites grants program
- Part of the Cook Labor Government's commitment to protecting and preserving Aboriginal cultural heritage
Aboriginal organisations across the Mid West and Gascoyne regions will receive support to protect culturally significant heritage sites and preserve Aboriginal cultural heritage through a Cook Labor Government grants program.
A total of $1.25 million has been allocated to Aboriginal Corporations and not-for-profit organisations across Western Australia to deliver projects that preserve, protect and promote Aboriginal cultural heritage.
Of that, $107,485.95 has been awarded to three projects in the Mid West and Gascoyne regions, supporting Aboriginal-led efforts to care for important heritage places and strengthen connections to Country.
Successful recipients are:
- Yugunga-Nya Aboriginal Corporation; and
- Wajarri Yamaji Aboriginal Corporation (two projects).
Among the successful projects, Wajarri Yamaji Aboriginal Corporation received $49,273.75 for the Bilung Pool Maintenance and Site Evaluation project, which will support site inspections and the installation of signage to improve site protection and interpretation.
The corporation also received $46,869.75 for the Boom Boom Spring and Middle Spring Maintenance and Site Evaluation project, which includes site assessments and new signage to support the ongoing management of these culturally significant places.
Yugunga-Nya Aboriginal Corporation received $11,342.45 for the Dairy Pool Site Protection project, delivering fencing and interpretive signage to strengthen protection of the site and support its preservation for future generations.
Funded activities across the region include site assessments, maintenance works, fencing, interpretive signage, and other initiatives that improve the protection, management, and understanding of Aboriginal heritage sites.
Together, these projects will help safeguard culturally significant places, support the sharing of cultural knowledge and ensure Aboriginal heritage continues to be protected for future generations.
The Preserve, Promote and Protect our Aboriginal Sites grants program supports practical, community-led initiatives that conserve Aboriginal cultural heritage while delivering social, cultural, and economic benefits for local Aboriginal communities.
