Orbost and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry will receive $1,450 to construct township welcome and events boards.

This project was among 19 local community groups and events that will share in $59,622.36 funding, as announced by East Gippsland Shire Council at its October Council meeting.

The grants are provided on a dollar-for-dollar basis, this means that Council funding helps generate further spending within the region and achieves more value for the community than it would without these partnerships.

Successful grant recipients from the Orbost district awarded under round one of Council's 2019/20 Community Project Grants program were:

  • Orbost Bowls Club: $1,072.00 to install safety handrails

  • Orbost Uniting Church: $5,000 for the Orbost Flower Show Centenary Celebration

  • Rotary Club of Orbost: $1,000 for the Christmas Eve Festival

  • Orbost Exhibition Centre: $3,000 for the 2020 Australia Wood Design Exhibit

The objective of the grants program is to provide local community-based organisations the opportunity to access funding for a variety of needs and initiatives in a manner that is open, transparent and accountable.
