- 20 northern beef businesses benefit from Round 2 of Business Improvement Grants
- Funding will improve the competitiveness of pastoralists in the Kimberley and Pilbara
The McGowan Government will invest up to $575,000 in 20 pastoral businesses across the Kimberley and Pilbara to improve business enterprises, drive innovation and create jobs.
The extension of the Business Improvement Grants (BIG) program will allow 20 additional pastoralists access to the successful program.
BIG is an incentive program for commercial cattle producers in the Kimberley and Pilbara regions to carry out an initial business review and two subsequent annual reviews, develop a business plan and implement business improvements to strengthen enterprise profitability.
By providing participants with business advice and mentoring support, BIG increases market competitiveness and the growth and resilience of individual beef producers, and delivers flow-on benefits across the Western Australian beef supply chain.
Of the BIG Round 2 grants awarded, 10 enterprises are located in the Kimberley and Pilbara regions respectively and 10 of the grant recipients are indigenous pastoral businesses.
Since the announcement of the program's extension, 13 existing participants have qualified for a $3,000 grant to complete another two annual business reviews.
Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development staff will continue to work with BIG participants to stimulate practice change, innovation and capacity development.
