Council wishes to advise Gravesend residents that the mechanical failure of a new chlorine dosing pump overnight has resulted in a temporary chlorine spike in the town water supply.
Continuous testing of the water has confirmed that chlorine concentration remains within the limits specified in the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines (ADWG). However, residents may notice a stronger than usual chlorine smell or taste in their tap water and probable discolouration due to the oxidation of manganese.
Council reassures the community that the water remains safe to drink and NSW Health have been advised of the increased levels.
Water operations staff are working to resolve the issue and water quality will return to normal shortly. Residents are kindly asked to be mindful of water usage throughout the day whilst operations staff isolate and lower the main reservoir and flush water mains to reinstate water quality in the town as soon as possible.
