Greater Bendigo Strategy Director to Join DEECA for New Challenge

City of Greater Bendigo Director Strategy and Growth Steve Hamilton will depart the organisation next month to join the State Government's Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action as DEECA Regional Director Loddon Mallee.

Mr Hamilton joined the City in August 2021 and oversaw the Statutory Planning, Strategic Planning, Bendigo Venues and Events, Bendigo Art Gallery, Tourism and Major Events, and Economic Development units.

During his time, Mr Hamilton has supported the organisation as it worked its way through the final stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, advocacy for the Bendigo Art Gallery project, celebrated the success of the Elvis: Direct from Graceland exhibition and 150 years of the Bendigo Easter Festival, and oversaw significant planning work.

Acting Chief Executive Officer Andrew Cooney congratulated Mr Hamilton on his new role.

"The City wishes Steve the best of luck as he makes the transition to the State Government," Mr Cooney said.

"He will continue to be a great advocate for the region and an important partner for the City, so we look forward to maintaining a close working relationship and achieving great outcomes for the benefit of central Victoria."

Mr Hamilton said he had enjoyed his time at the City and welcomed the new challenge ahead.

"I have really appreciated the opportunity to work for the City and have been so proud of what the Strategy and Growth directorate has achieved over the past two years," Mr Hamilton said.

"I am excited by the opportunity to continue to make a contribution to the region at the State level and look forward to continuing to work in Galkangu enjoying the great culture that is developing between organisations in that building."

Mr Hamilton's final day with the City will be Friday August 18, 2023.
