Greater Shepparton hosted the national launch of AUSactive's Million Moves campaign at Western Park on Tuesday 1 September, bringing the community together to begin the free 21-day movement challenge.
Greater Shepparton was selected to host the national launch, providing an opportunity to showcase the many facilities, programs and open spaces available locally to help residents and visitors stay active.
The event included a free Tai Chi session, with attendees encouraged to register for Million Moves and join the Aquamoves Team.
Million Moves runs until Monday 21 September 2026 and encourages people of all ages and abilities to move in a way that works for them. One minute of movement equals one move, with every move contributing to the team total.
Councillor Steven Threlfall, McEwen Ward, said it was fitting for Greater Shepparton to host the national launch.
"Greater Shepparton is proud to have been selected to host the national launch of Million Moves," he said.
"Our region has a strong culture of sport, recreation and community connection, supported by facilities and open spaces that make it easier for residents and visitors to be active.
"From Aquamoves and Shepparton Sports Stadium to KidsTown, our parks, playgrounds and walking and cycling paths, there are many ways for people of all ages and abilities to get moving."
Aquamoves Health and Wellbeing Coordinator Linda McKenzie said Million Moves provides another opportunity for Aquamoves to support the community to become more active.
"It was fantastic to host the national launch in Shepparton and see the community come together to get moving," she said.
"Aquamoves is proud to support the challenge by helping people discover simple and enjoyable ways to be active. I encourage everyone to register, join the Aquamoves Team and keep moving throughout September."
AUSactive CEO Ken Griffin welcomed the opportunity to work with the Shepparton community.
"We are proud to be working with the Shepparton community to get people moving," he said.
"We know that the whole community benefits when more people are active, engaged and living their best lives."
Activities in the Park will offer Body Balance and Pilates at Queen's Gardens, as well as Huff and Puff Walking Group sessions at Aquamoves.
Aquamoves is offering free gym assessments for young people aged 14 to 18 until Monday 21 September and come and try gym sessions for those aged 16 to 18 at 10am on Saturdays 12 and 19 September.
Shepparton Sports Stadium will also run come and try group fitness classes from Monday 14 September to Friday 18 September.
