Green Streets: Orana's Cooler, Connected Future

The City of Casey, in partnership with developer Balcon, is proud to deliver Green Streets in Orana - a groundbreaking and award-winning tree-first approach to urban development that redefines how we design our communities.

Unlike traditional subdivisions that prioritise cars, Green Streets puts nature and people first, creating cooler, greener neighbourhoods that foster health, connection, and resilience. This innovative project aims to achieve over 30% canopy cover by planting 2 to 2.5 trees per lot - more than double the industry standard.

Key features include:

• Tree root growth zones with improved quality soil backfill.

• Integrated landscaping within street design.

• Circular economy principles, using sustainable construction materials.

City of Casey Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen says "Green Streets in Orana shows what's possible when we put sustainability and community at the heart of urban design. This project sets a new benchmark for growth areas and demonstrates that greener streets mean healthier, safer, and more vibrant neighbourhoods for everyone."

To date, more than 2,700 trees have been planted, forming habitat corridors and enhancing community safety and amenity. For residents, this means:

• Improved liveability - shaded streets, safer walking environments and vibrant community spaces.

• Climate resilience - reduced urban heat, better water quality and flood mitigation.

• Environmental benefits - more biodiversity, healthier trees and sustainable practices.

• Future-proof design - a replicable model for growth areas across the region.
