Greenvale Reservoir has been transformed into an open green space for families to relax and enjoy with improved access and safety, thanks to the Allan Labor Government.
Minister for Water Gayle Tierney today reopened the southern section of Greenvale Reservoir Park, with 37 hectares of green space now accessible around the reservoir for community use to enjoy and connect to nature.
The revitalised park now offers improved walking trails and entry points, new toilets, resurfaced roads and carparks, upgraded road signs and safety barriers, and a range of amenities for families to use.
A new playground will also be delivered, with further updates to come to the community in the new year.
Melbourne Water and Parks Victoria invested $3 million to deliver the project, which has connected the northern and southern sections of the park to create a single open space.
The northern section of the park was earlier reopened under the Labor Government's $21 million Urban Parks Active Wellbeing Program. The program delivered upgrades across 21 urban parks to encourage outdoor activity and connection with nature.
The work complements the Labor Government's $315 million Suburban Parks Program, which is creating 6,500 hectares of new parkland, trails and dog parks, such as a new all-abilities playscape and upgraded walking track at Wattle Park and a new Plenty River Trail.
As a protected water catchment, Greenvale Reservoir plays a key role in supplying drinking water to Melbourne's north-western and western suburbs.
Melbourne Water has undertaken a range of critical dam wall upgrades to secure additional drinking water supply to meet for communities across Greenvale and the northern suburbs.
