Police have charged a man following the alleged assault of a woman in Mareeba yesterday morning, Queensland Police say.
It will be alleged at around 5:00am a man assaulted a woman at an apartment complex, causing significant head and facial injuries.
During the assault the woman managed to escape to a nearby residence where she was conveyed to Mareeba Police Station.
The 29-year-old woman was subsequently transported to Mareeba Hospital and later to Cairns Base Hospital for treatment of facial fractures.
A 44-year-old man, who is known to the woman, attended Mareeba Police Station this morning where he was taken into custody.
He has been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm and is due to appear in Mareeba Magistrates Court on November 27.
