Grievous bodily harm charge in Torquay, QLD

Police have charged a 19-year-old man following an incident in the early hours of this morning in Torquay, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged around 1.15am this morning a fight between two men was occurring on Charlton Esplanade when a 23-year-old man attempted to break up the fight.

It is then alleged the 19-year-old man, who was not involved in the initial fight, has struck the 23-year-old man in the head causing him to lose consciousness and fall to the ground hitting his head.

The 23-year-old, St Lucia man was treated at the scene and transported to the Hervey Bay Hospital with significant head injuries.

A 19-year-old Tinana man was arrested at the scene and later charged with one count of grievous bodily harm. He will appear in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court today.
