Police have charged a 36-year-old man following investigations into an incident that occurred in Doomadgee on April 19, Queensland Police say.
It will be alleged that sometime around 2.50am, a man has struck a woman a number of times with an axe.
The 25-year-old woman sustained serious injuries. She remains in a critical but stable condition in the Townsville Base Hospital.
The 36-year-old Doomadgee man has been charged with one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.
He is due to appear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court today.
The man and woman are known to one another.
