Grievous bodily harm investigation at Gympie

Detectives have declared a crime scene outside a licensed premises on Mary Street in Gympie after a 41-year-old man suffered serious head injuries during an assault.

Police were called to the scene around 2am as members of the public rendered first aid to the man who had sustained injuries consistent with grievous bodily harm.

Investigators were able to identify a suspect and subsequently attended an address on Horseshoe Bend, where they arrested a 24-year-old man who is now assisting with enquiries.

The 41-year-old man was flown to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the assault, or who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage from Mary Street or Horseshoe bend, to contact them.

Investigations are continuing.
