Grievous bodily injury caused to officer in assault in Junee

A man has been charged after the assault of a police officer in Junee, which resulted in serious injuries.

About 7pm today, police were called to reports of a naked man running around and behaving irrationally in Hill Street, Junee.

Police attended and located an 18-year-old man in a paddock at the rear of a property, NSW Police say.

As police attempted to speak to the man, he allegedly rushed at police, punching a female senior constable in the face before being subdued.

The officer suffered a fractured hard roof palate to her mouth. She was conveyed to Wagga Rural Referral Hospital and was later transported by road to Canberra Hospital for surgery.

The 18-year-old man was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where he was charged with cause grievous bodily harm to police officer on duty, assault officer in execution of duty, and resist arrest.

He was bail refused to appear at Wagga Wagga Bail Court tomorrow.
