Griffith residents asked to imagine griffith

Griffith City Council is reviewing the guiding griffith 2040 Community Strategic Plan (CSP) and is asking the community for input.

Residents are being urged to get involved in helping ensure that the future vision, ideas, and actions in the existing CSP continue to meet the expectations of Griffith's changing community.

This will be a great opportunity for those who work and live together in Griffith to help Council shape our future.

Council's Director Economic and Organisational Development, Shireen Donaldson said, input is crucial for the ongoing development of Griffith and the region.

"In the coming months you will be asked to get involved, so please get on board," Mrs Donaldson said.

"guiding griffith 2040 centred on engaging with everyone in our community including those that live, work, study, and attend school or do business, as well as those that shop or visit our region.

"We all have an interest in our City and we all have the opportunity to imagine Griffith beyond 2040 and shape our future together."

Throughout 2021 Council will be asking community members all kinds of questions, about all kinds of things to ensure we are on track.

Council has planned a wide variety of ways for residents to contribute their big ideas for the future.

Residents are urged to follow Council's Facebook posts and participate in a series of rolling online surveys and answer our 'question of the week', chat with staff as they 'pop-up' around the City and be part of the Imagine Griffith - Community Opinion Group.

Keep an eye out for Walt (Working and Living Together) as he helps explain what the CSP is and assists Council reach as many people as possible.

There will also be opportunities to provide feedback at our facilities and the monthly Council Café using the Big Ideas Wall, where you can simply write your idea down on a post it note and add it to the wall. Your suggestions will be important 'bricks' in the review process. Other activities include art and photography competitions, with the winning submissions used to help update the guiding griffith 2040 CSP document.

What is a CSP?

The CSP is the community's plan, prepared by Council on behalf of the entire community it represents. The plan reflects the aspirations and priorities of our community into the future. It sets a direction for everything we must do together as a Council and a community to make that vision a reality.

The plan sits at the top of Council's strategic planning framework and provides long-term direction for the organisation to align its delivery of the community's policies, programs and services. The CSP integrates with key Council plans and policies and acts as a guide for other stakeholders (organisations, government agencies, business and individuals) in planning and delivering services for our area. The plan also responds to state, metropolitan and regional plans and priorities relevant to the region.

Why do we need a Community Strategic Plan?

Under legislation, NSW Councils are required to develop a CSP so that Council and community are working in the same direction. Council's four year Delivery Plan and annual Operational Plan flows from the CSP.

The Plan also provides a way for Council to be accountable to the community and the State Government by reporting annually on its implementation.

The Community Strategic Plan is not static. It is reviewed every four years.

Who owns the Community Strategic Plan?

The Plan is owned by the whole community. Council is the custodian of the Plan on behalf of the community.

Whose responsibility is it to implement the plan?

The responsibility for making the long-term community vision a reality rests with us all. Council looks forward to working in close collaboration with our community, key partners and stakeholders in making our region an even better place to live, visit and invest.
