Griffith's Economic Power Showcased at EXpresso

Griffith's strong economy, thriving beverage manufacturing industry and growing multicultural community were key highlights of Council's recent Economic EXpresso event.

Presented by Glenn Capuano from .id (Informed Decisions), the update drew on the latest State of the Region report, providing insights into jobs, industry performance and population trends.

In 2023–24, Griffith's Gross Regional Product reached $2.05 billion, with 16,657 people employed. Agriculture, manufacturing and construction remain major job drivers, although construction has eased following completion of the new Griffith Base Hospital.

Beverage manufacturing remains a standout, with a location quotient of 22.4 confirming Griffith's dominance in the wine and drinks sector. The city's unemployment rate sits at just 2.3%, with workforce participation at 65%, well above many similar regional areas.

Griffith's population is also on the rise, reaching 27,340 in 2024, up 0.5% over three years. The city's birth rate of 2.23 is well above the national average and migration continues to play an important role, particularly from India. Today, more than 23% of residents speak a language other than English at home, showcasing Griffith's growing cultural diversity.

Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said the results show that Griffith is not only holding its own, but leading the way in key areas like beverage manufacturing, jobs and cultural diversity.

"Our strong economy and growing community put us in an excellent position to attract new investment and create more opportunities for our residents." Mayor Doug Curran said.

The data and insights presented at the event will help inform planning, investment and decision-making across the region. Council encourages the community and local businesses to explore the full report.
