National Science Week returns for 2026 this August and Hawkesbury Arts & Culture has something for everyone to enjoy!
Taking place from 15 – 23 August, National Science Week is Australia's annual celebration of science and technology. Running each year in August, it features more than 2,000 events around Australia. The theme for 2026 is "Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for all".
Hawkesbury Library Service will be hosting interactive pop-up displays at Richmond Branch Library and Central Library, Windsor. Packed with hands-on activities for all ages, these displays offer a fun and engaging experience for the whole family. Journey through the history of inventions to see how a simple idea can develop into something extraordinary over time, dig into the world of palaeontology, explore environmental science, to see how living things grow and respond to their environment.
Over at Hawkesbury Regional Museum, there is something for everyone. In addition to their free exhibitions sharing histories of the Hawkesbury region, the Museum will be running a Botanical Illustration workshop for adults and teens in the new Aboriginal Teaching Garden, Ngarra Ngurang / Place of Learning. Spend the afternoon working slowly to create expressive botanical illustrations, zooming in on the tiniest details of leave, flower and seed to uncover the secrets of how nature works.
Aspiring young archaeologists can also get their hands dirty in Hawkesbury Regional Museum's mini dig boxes. Use brushes and tools to uncover hidden treasures buried in the sand and carefully record what you find on our artefact record sheets.
