Guard charged with assault after man knocked unconscious - Potts Point

A security guard has been charged after a man was knocked unconscious outside a nightclub in Potts Point this morning.

It was about 1am (Sunday 2 May 2021), that officers from Kings Cross Police Area Command were patrolling Darlinghurst Road when they were flagged down by people concerned for the welfare of a 33-year-old man on the footpath.

Police were told the man had lost consciousness for several minutes when he was allegedly pushed by a security guard, falling backwards and hitting his head on the path.

Officers rendered first aid to the man before NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived and took him to St Vincent's Hospital.

A 28-year-old man, who police allege was performing security guard duties outside the club, was arrested and taken to Kings Cross Police Station.

The man, from Lakemba, has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and has been granted conditional bail to appear in Central Local Court on Tuesday 25 May 2021.

An application for suspension/revocation of the man's licence has been made.

After being assessed, and held under observation for nine hours, the man was discharged.
