Guardian V2 on patrol

Brimbank Highway Patrol members on duty in the Victoria Police’s Mercedes Guardian V2 intercepted a car on Glengala Road, Sunshine about 9.20am today after noticing its odd looking number plates, Victoria Police say.

Police soon discovered the oversized plates didn’t match the unregistered vehicle and the driver, a 53-year-old Sunshine man, was currently disqualified from driving.

He underwent a preliminary drug test which returned a positive result and provided a further sample which has been sent off for analysis.

The 53-year-old has been charged with driving whilst disqualified, drug driving, using an unregistered vehicle, breaching bail and displaying false plates.

His car has also been impounded for 30 days at a cost of $932.40 and he was bailed to appear at Sunshine Magistrates’ court on 2 August 2017.

The Guardian V2 is on loan to Victoria Police from Mercedes and is performing operational police duties whilst highlighting the benefits of safer vehicles and safer systems.
