Guns and ammunition seized after Deer Park arrest

Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit detectives have seized several firearms, ammunition, suspected drugs and cash after a man was arrested by the Special Operations Group in Deer Park late yesterday.

The arrest followed an incident earlier in the day in Albanvale where it was reported a man discharged a firearm from a moving vehicle toward another moving vehicle on Concord Circuit about 9.50am.

No one was injured during the incident which was believed to be targeted.

Detectives investigating the alleged shooting executed a warrant with support from the Special Operations Group in Stevenage Crescent on Wednesday 24 February about 4pm.

A search of the property is alleged to have uncovered seven handguns, two long arms, a silencer, an improvised explosive device, large amounts of ammunition, suspected ecstasy tablets and cash.

A 36-year-old man was arrested at the address and has been issued with 23 charges including; possess imitation firearm (x6), possess unregistered long arm (x2), make false document, possess prohibited weapon (x2), possess ammunition without a licence, possess handgun, possess explosive substance and possess unlicensed long arm.

The Deer Park man was remanded in custody to appear at Sunshine Magistrates' Court today, Thursday 25 February.
