Guy Barnett needs to come clean on payouts

Tasmanian Labor

Guy Barnett needs to come clean at Government Business Enterprise hearings this week about the bill taxpayers have footed in payouts to highly paid Hydro executives who have left the organisation.

Shadow Energy Minister Dean Winter said in the wake of the revelation that four former Hydro Tasmania executives were paid $2.4 million to leave, Minister Barnett had still refused to reveal the payout to former Chief Executive Officer, Evangelista Albertini.

Mr Winter said it had now been almost 12 weeks since Mr Albertini left the organisation and Tasmanians deserve to understand the extent of his golden handshake.

"It's just disgraceful that taxpayers footed a bill for $2.4 million for four executives," Mr Winter said.

"Now the attention turns to Mr Albertini's payout. If he really resigned for 'personal reasons' as Mr Barnett claims, he should not have received a golden handshake.

"Mr Barnett has refused to reveal the reason for Mr Albertini's departure from the business. This week represents the opportunity to provide clarity.

"Tasmanians are right to ask, "what does the Energy Minister have to hide?"

"There needs to be a full explanation about all aspects of these enormous payouts."
