Haddad should retract false assertions

Elise Archer,Attorney-General

Minister for Justice

I need to correct the false and lazy assertions put out today by Ella Haddad.

The Tasmanian Law Reform Institute (TLRI) conducted a very lengthy and comprehensive review into the Guardianship and Administration Act, which was completed in December 2018.

Given the extremely complex nature of this reform, we are taking a staged approach to its implementation to ensure all matters can be progressed in a timely manner.

Earlier this year, I introduced the first tranche of these amendments to the Act to establish a legislative framework for the making and implementation of Advance Care Directives. This is the first in a number of stages to come, to deal with this substantial and often difficult reform which I am fully committed to delivering.

Had Ms Haddad been listening when I made my Second Reading Speech, she would know of this strong commitment and the reform that is already underway.

Rather than lazy politicking on a serious and complex issue such as this, Ms Haddad should acknowledge the significant body of work already being undertaken.
