Haiti Broadcaster Francklin Tamar Killed, D-G Condemns

UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay has called for an investigation into the killing of radio journalist Francklin Tamar in the capital Port-au-Prince on 18 December.

I condemn the killing of Francklin Tamar. I call on the authorities to investigate this murder and urge them to take measures to improve the protection of journalists and enable them to carry out their socially important work in a free and safe environment.

Tamar, the host of two cultural programmes on Radio Solidarité was shot by two unidentified assailants on a street near his home. He was the 9th journalist to be killed in Haiti in 2022.

UNESCO promotes the safety of journalists through global awareness-raising, capacity building and by coordinating the implementation of the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.
