Half-price flights to Hobart welcomed

Peter Gutwein,Premier

We welcome the decision to include Hobart in the Australian Government's Tourism Stimulus Package.

I personally contacted and then wrote to the Prime Minister last week requesting urgent consideration be given to the inclusion of Hobart under the scheme, and we join the tourism industry in welcoming this fantastic news.

With Hobart, Launceston, Devonport and Burnie now all included in this initiative, it will bring even more travellers to Tasmania and encourage them to visit all parts of our state, spreading the economic benefit more widely and supporting jobs in all our regions.

The half-price flights will bring more travellers keen to spend in our hotels, restaurants and cafes, and tourism experiences.

This initiative will complement what the Tasmanian Liberal Government has already done to support the industry, with around $27.5 million in additional spend estimated to have been generated by our Make Yourself At Home travel voucher program along with grant programs and tax relief.
