- Improved facilities for those walking, wheeling, and riding to Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour
- New arrival zone created with bike racks, shading, and seating
- Early milestone in the Cook Government's vision to better connect the harbour to the centre of Fremantle
- Part of the Cook Government's commitment to delivering quality infrastructure and services for Western Australians and promote active and healthy lifestyles
The first stage of work to improve walking and riding links to Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour has been completed, delivering a new arrival zone for visitors to Bathers Beach.
The project forms part of the wider Fremantle Harbours Master Plan, a vision to enhance connections between the harbour and the heart of Fremantle.
The Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI) has delivered improvements to part of the eastern pocket of the Bathers Beach precinct, creating an arrival zone where the shared path through Fremantle passes the Fishing Boat Harbour.
Located on Mews Road near Wardan Lane, this activation project supports walking and riding links to the harbour and complements other measures being planned by both DTMI and the City of Fremantle to improve Bathers Beach as a family and event destination.
The facility will provide new parking capable of accommodating larger cargo and family bikes, as well as seating for the harbour community and visitors in a landscaped plaza.
DTMI contracted Ventia to complete the $260,000 project, with input from Town Team Movement and The Forever Project.
Future planned shared path upgrades will make it easier and safer for people of all ages and abilities to walk, wheel, and ride from Fremantle Station to the harbour precinct.
The activation builds on the Cook Government's commitment to upgrading the existing shared path between Fremantle Train Station and Mews Road, including resurfacing, localised widening, and complementary amenities.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"This is an important first milestone as we work to better connect the iconic Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour with the heart of Fremantle.
"The completion of this new arrival zone at the harbour is part of our government's commitment to making it easier and safer for people to walk or ride around Fremantle.
"It's part of a $222 million investment over the next four years to enhance active transport infrastructure across Western Australia to encourage more people to walk, wheel and ride around our State."
As stated by Fremantle MLA Simone McGurk:
"Activation of the Bathers Beach Forecourt is a great step forward in the Cook Government's vision to better connect and activate Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour.
"The project has revitalised an underutilised area of the harbour and includes a stunning new sculpture in honour of former Cicerello's owner and harbour identity, Tony Unmack.
"We acknowledge the generosity of the Unmack family in making the sculpture, created by renowned artist Tony Jones, available for display at the harbour."
