Hatchet Seized At Elizabeth Shopping Centre

Elizabeth police arrested a man yesterday after he was found in possession of a small axe.

Just after 8pm on Thursday, 14 May, police were conducting metal detector wand searches at the Elizabeth City Centre when they stopped a 31-year-old man from Salisbury Plain.

The man was searched, with police allegedly locating a hatchet in his bag.

He was arrested and charged with carrying an offensive weapon in a public place. He was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 29 June.

Police were granted powers in late 2025 to conduct wanding and weapons searches in certain declared shopping centres. For more information on declared public events and places, including transport hubs and shopping precincts, visit SAPOL - Declared Public Events and Places.
