The Hodgman Liberal Government is progressing four road upgrade projects along West Tamar Highway.
These projects form part of a $12 million investment towards a safer and more efficient highway and are an important element of the Government's $92.5 million Launceston and Tamar Valley Traffic Vision election policy commitment.
The proposed upgrades include the sections of West Tamar Highway from north of Rosevears Drive to Gravelly Beach Road, Atkinsons Road to Waldhorn Drive, Exeter to Batman Highway, and Motor Road junction.
The scope of each project is different, and proposed works include road widening, shoulder sealing, road resurfacing, new overtaking opportunities, a new footpath, vegetation clearing to improve visibility, and improvements to stormwater drainage.
These projects are aimed at maintaining the liveability of communities along the highway and improving the reliability of commuting times to and from Launceston.
Consultation with key stakeholders is already underway, and formal consultation on initial concept designs is now open to the public. Outcomes of the consultation process will help inform the detailed project designs.
Feedback, ideas and suggestions on the West Tamar Highway upgrade projects can be provided via an online interactive map until Friday, 31 May 2019.
The concept designs will also be on display at West Tamar Council Office Riverside (2–4 Eden Street, Riverside) from Monday, 20 May until Friday, 31 May 2019.
