Hawkesbury City Council has been recognised as a Silver Partner of the NSW Government's Sustainability Advantage program.
Delivered by the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (NSW DCCEEW), Sustainability Advantage supports organisations to improve their sustainability performance, reduce costs and create long-term value.
Silver Partner recognition is awarded to organisations that demonstrate active sustainability leadership, a strong commitment to continuous improvement, effective sustainability systems and processes, and evidence of significant sustainability achievements.
Since achieving Bronze Recognition in 2020, Hawkesbury City Council has delivered a broad range of sustainability initiatives and achievements which have contributed to Council's advancement to Silver status.
Key achievements include the development and implementation of several documents including the Hawkesbury Net Zero Emissions and Water Efficiency Strategy (2021), Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy (2022), Hawkesbury Environmental Sustainability Strategy (2023), and Thriving Hawkesbury: Beyond Resilience (2025).

Programs and projects that have contributed to a more sustainable Hawkesbury include but are not limited to:
- Publishing of a Sustainability & Net Zero Dashboard including the online waste guide
- Transitioning to sustainable events
- Continued delivery of the Hawkesbury Living Sustainable Workshop Series
- Resident sustainable rebates on reusable products
- Schools and early learning centres waste education program
- Investigating circular economy opportunities
- Beginning Council's transition of its fleet to Electric Vehicles
- Collaborating regionally for sustainable outcomes such as litter prevention, energy efficiency and net zero.
Council remains committed to ensuring our programs, projects and works do not compromise the ability of future generations to meet their needs, and that the environmental, economic and social implications of our work will be considered with everything we do.
A more sustainable Hawkesbury can only be achieved through collaborative action between all levels of government including Council, private industry and the Hawkesbury community.
