The NSW Rural Fire Service is planning to conduct a Hazard Reduction (HR) burn in Barnsley on Saturday 12 April 2026, weather permitting.
The Banyandah Road HR is located in the vicinity of 145 Banyandah Road, Barnsley, west of Appletree Road and South of Holmesville, and to the east of Killingworth Road. The burn is 60 hectares in size. The map is an indication of the general burn area, and the boundaries are not precise.
If weather conditions become unfavourable on the planned day, the hazard reduction burn will be rescheduled.
Safety precautions
As the prescribed burn will generate smoke, hot embers and heat, it is important that you consider the following:
- Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering homes
- Outdoor items such as furniture and trampolines should be either taken inside or covered. Where this is not practical, items should be hosed down regularly to prevent ember damage
- Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage
- Remove washing from clotheslines
- Ensure pets have a protected area
- If you are driving a vehicle, slow down, keep windows up and turn headlights on
- Obey the instructions of traffic controllers and emergency services
- Sightseers must keep away from burns for their own safety
- If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities. If shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice.
