The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), together with the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), is conducting a hazard reduction burn in Columbey National Park on Friday 18 September, subject to suitable weather conditions.
The 50-hectare burn will be located 1.5 km west of Clarence Town will help to reduce bushfire fuel loads to help protect neighbouring properties and surrounding communities.
The following tracks and trails will be closed for the duration of the burn: part of Cemetery Fire Road (the section within the National Park only), Eastern Arm Trail and Eastern Boundary Trail. These will reopen once they have been assessed as safe.
Smoke may affect nearby areas and motorists using Clarence Town Road are reminded to drive to conditions and to take care if visibility is reduced by smoke.
People with asthma or other respiratory conditions are advised to avoid smoky areas where possible, remain indoors, close windows and doors, and follow their health plan.
This burn is one of many hazard reduction operations undertaken by NPWS across NSW each year, often with assistance from the Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW.
These hazard reduction burns are essential to reduce bushfire fuel loads to help protect the parks, their natural and cultural values, neighbours and communities from future bushfires.
