Hazard Reduction Burn In Garigal National Park |

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), together with Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Rural Fire Service is planning a hazard reduction burn in Garigal National Park, at Cascades East, north of Davidson, starting today Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th April 2026.

The 77hectare burn extends north-west of Davidson and is bounded by Middle Harbour Creek, Cascades trail and Middle Harbour Creek track, behind to property boundaries from Mathews Street to Stone Parade.

Cascades Trail, Carrol Trig Trail, Middle Harbour Creek Track and Frenchs Creek Track will be closed for public safety. The track will be reopened once assessed as safe.

The aim of the burn is to improve protection for properties adjacent to the burn at Davidson, to reduce the spread of wildfire within Garigal National Park and to promote biodiversity by maintaining appropriate fire regimes across the reserve system.

NPWS will be assisted by NSW Rural Fire Service crews for some of the burns, and these burns are just some of many being undertaken by NPWS across NSW, as conditions allow.

Drivers are advised to take care as smoke may impact nearby areas and roads. People with asthma or who are susceptible to respiratory problems are advised to keep clear of the area or stay indoors, close windows and doors and follow their health plan.

Roads and trails will be reopened once the areas are assessed as safe. Visitors must check NPWS Alerts for up-to-date information on closures.

Planned low to moderate intensity burns also aim to improve biodiversity and provide safer access for firefighters.

If you are vulnerable to smoke, try to stay indoors, keeping doors and windows closed to reduce your exposure
