Intermediate Amyloid PET Levels Linked to Tau Pathology and Cognitive Decline
A study of 512 individuals found that the often-overlooked intermediate range of amyloid PET uptake was associated with measurable Alzheimer disease–related changes. People in this range showed evidence of tau pathology and cognitive decline, suggesting that intermediate amyloid burden may represent an important stage between low amyloid levels and more advanced disease.
Early SPECT/CT Response Predicts Survival in PSMA-Positive Prostate Cancer
Early same-day posttherapy SPECT/CT after 177Lu-PSMA-617 treatment was associated with overall survival in 158 men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. Patients showing an imaging response after two treatment cycles had longer survival, while high tumor burden and lack of PSA response were linked to shorter survival.
FDG PET Adds Prognostic Information in PSMA-Targeted Prostate Cancer Therapy
A study of 99 men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer evaluated whether 18F-FDG PET adds prognostic information to 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET before 177Lu-PSMA-617 therapy. PSMA PET measures provided strong survival stratification, while FDG PET tumor burden offered additional risk information, particularly for patients with high metabolic tumor burden.
MRI Myelin Measures May Improve Amyloid PET Quantification
A study of 114 participants found that intracortical myelin contributes to the signal measured by amyloid PET scans. Myelin water fraction, an MRI-based measure of myelin, independently predicted amyloid PET signal and improved statistical models by about 6 percent. The findings suggest MRI measures could help refine amyloid PET quantification.
PET Tracer Cocktail Targets Pseudomonas aeruginosa Infections
Researchers developed a PET imaging approach using three 68Ga–labeled pyoverdines to detect Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections. In animal studies, the tracer cocktail identified different P. aeruginosa strains while showing little to no uptake in sterile inflammation, other pathogens, or inactive bacteria, highlighting its potential for more specific infection imaging.
