Hazardous Winds Hit Cooma, Jindabyne Waste Sites

Temporary safety measures are in effect at Cooma Landfill and Jindabyne Waste Facility today, Tuesday 16 September 2025, due to hazardous strong winds.


Cooma Landfill: Open with restrictions

  • No large or commercial disposals accepted today, Tuesday 16 September 2025
  • Facility is open for small commercial and residential disposals only
  • Tip-face is closed – no organics drop-off, no vehicle-to-landfill disposals

Jindabyne Waste Facility: Closed to the public

  • Conditions on-site are too hazardous and the facility is closed for the safety of the public and Council staff

Further potentially hazardous winds are forecast across the region this week.

Conditions can change rapidly and facilities may need to close or limit operations at short notice to protect community and staff safety.
