'He's always by my side': how this brave young tabby recovered from injury to find happiest new home

Do you recognise this handsome face? Back in August, poor Finnick arrived at our Lonsdale shelter in such excruciating pain that he could barely stand.

With a huge and painful abscess on his right hind leg, the 2-year-old tabby needed immediate treatment and pain relief.

We're so excited to say that this brave young man was able to recover after weeks of gentle care and is now loving life in his forever home - and it's all thanks to your help.

Beautifully compassionate South Australians step up to help Finnick

Finnick's case is one of many tragic examples of the dangers of letting your kitty roam the streets, especially at night.

Our vets predicted that the sweet little boy sustained his injury from a nasty cat fight, and unfortunately, a number of days had passed before he was surrendered into our care for treatment.

Luckily, Finnick arrived at our shelter in time to save his leg. Our vets believe that had he been left untreated any longer, he was in danger of losing it entirely.

But - months of close daily care, medications, health check-ups and rehabilitation came at a great cost, so we asked for help to pay Finnick's medical bills.

Incredibly, kind-hearted supporters donated nearly $500, and Finnick was soon ready to brighten the life of someone who would make sure he would never feel unsafe or unloved ever again.

After overcoming adversity, handsome young Finnick quickly win his fur mum over with his brave eyes and fighting spirit

When Ariya's friend sent her the link to Finnick's adoption page, she instantly fell in love with the brave and handsome boy.

"His eyes drew me in, and the fact he looked so leopard-like made me want to drive an hour just to meet him," she says.

Ariya soon stumbled across Finnick's donation page too, and her mind was made up for her.

"I read about his traumatic story and I wanted to be the one to care for him and give him a home."

It was Finnick's lucky day, but it was Ariya's too. The two bonded so quickly and are now closer than ever.

The handsome boy quickly settled in and loves spending his nights sleeping on a pillow next to Ariya. Affectionately, he even runs to the door whenever she gets home and follows her around!

"He's always by my side," she says.

Beautiful Finnick is now safe from harm as an indoor cat, and Ariya tells us that he loves to sit on the windowsill and watch the world go by.

'Thank you for introducing this beautiful boy into my world'

Having formed such a strong bond with her darling fur baby, Ariya now can't imagine life without Finnick and is so glad she got to bring him home forever. But it's only thanks to those who so generously donated to fund his treatment and recovery.

"I would like to say a massive thank you to all the people who contributed donations to Finnick's treatment," says Ariya.

"You gave him a second change at life, and introduced this beautiful boy into my world. I am so grateful."

Thank you Ariya, and thank you to all our supporters.

From the bottom of our hearts, we're so grateful to all our supporters who made Finnick's new life with Ariya a reality. If you'd like to continue helping animals just like Finnick, head over here to see our current emergency appeals.
