Health dashboard data shows extent of Liberal Government's failures

Tasmanian Labor
  • 71% increase in elective surgery waitlist since 2018 election
  • Outpatient waitlist up to 51,388
  • Ambulance response time worst in the country
  • Health dashboard data released today presents the grim reality facing Tasmania's health sector.

Shadow Minister for Health Dr Bastian Seidel said the numbers show the Government has lost control of the health system.

"The Health dashboard shows the elective surgery wait list has increased 71% since the 2018 election, blowing out to 12,086," Dr Seidel said.

"The outpatient waitlist has increased 76% from the 2018 election to 51,388, which is double what it was when the Liberals were elected in 2014.

"Just 57% of emergency patients are being seen on time which is simply gobsmacking."

Dr Seidel said Ambulance response time had increased by up to 14.2 minutes and remains the worst in the country.

"Ambulance response times are the worst in the country and continue to grow.

"This means Tasmanians who require immediate medical assistance are being forced to wait longer than anyone else in the nation.

"Peter Gutwein and the Liberal Government cannot spin their way around these numbers, which show the health system is in steep decline.

"And for Minister Courtney to try to claim credit for the oral health waitlist reduction is a disgrace.

"Given fewer than 200 people were seen in December this is almost certainly the result of a wait list audit - meaning people have been kicked off the list - and in any event the oral health wait list is up 40% since the 2018 election.

"The Government must act immediately to fix this crisis before more Tasmanians suffer."
