Healthy pet day planned for Griffith

Griffith pet owners are being encouraged to attend Healthy Pet Day on Tuesday 21 November 2023 to have their pet vaccinated, microchipped and have a health check at no cost.

Griffith City Council is collaborating with RSPCA and Friends of Griffith Pound to deliver the community service, and Council staff will be providing assistance and raise awareness on the day.

Due to the expected high demand, these services will only be available for pension concession card holders, health care card holders or those on jobseeker (proof required) over the age of 18 and living in the Griffith Local Government Area.

Bookings are essential and eligible pet owners will be notified of the details upon booking.

Council's Director Sustainable Development, Mr Bruce Gibbs said, microchipping, vaccination and health checks are key to responsible pet ownership.

"Council knows the importance of microchipping and is offering this free service to assist pet owners who may be less fortunate in our local community and not be able to access veterinary services and have their pet vaccinated, microchipped and examined," Mr Gibbs said.

"Healthy Pet Day is also a good opportunity for pet owners to come along and meet our new Animal Rehoming Team."

Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said, the event would help pets and their owners, get the help and support they need.

"I want to thank the Friends of Griffith Pound for their dedication to the welfare of animals in Griffith," he said.

"It's because of their hard work and ongoing commitment that we are able to work with RSPCA to hold this event and assist our community."

Bookings are essential. Residents must call 0429 080 132 to book their pet.

Breeders are not eligible for this service and litters will only be accepted under extenuating circumstances. Please ensure your dogs are on a lead, and cats are in a carrier.
