Heavily pregnant woman assaulted, man charged at Parramatta

A heavily pregnant woman remains in Westmead Hospital this morning after being assaulted by a man in Parramatta last night.

About 10.30pm (Wednesday 20 November 2019), a 31-year-old woman was with friends at a café on Church Street when a man approached her table.

The man allegedly leaned over the table and punched the woman in the head multiple times before she fell to the ground where it's alleged the man stomped on her head.

Other patrons of the café came to the woman's aid and managed to restrain the man until the arrival of police.

Officers from Parramatta Police Area Command attended and arrested the 43-year-old man.

He was taken to Parramatta Police Station where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

He was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court today (Thursday 21 November 2019).

The woman was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital for observation. She is 38 weeks pregnant.

The man is not known to the woman.
