Heavy on fanfare, light on detail

Tasmanian Labor
  • Additional support for businesses long overdue
  • More questions, no answers
  • Government needs to provide details
  • The government's announcement of power bill relief for small businesses in multi-tenanted properties is welcome news, but light on detail.

Shadow Minister for Energy David O'Byrne said businesses in embedded networks have missed out on previous support due to the way their electricity is metered, through no fault of their own.

"Labor raised this issue in Parliament two months ago and many affected businesses had already contacted the government in the months prior to that with no response.

"After months of delays, to cynically announce a backflip on a Dorothy Dix question in Parliament illustrates this is more about politics than supporting small business.

"While today's announcement is welcome, there are no details about what support will be available, who will be eligible or how to access it, let alone how long it will take to get this support out to businesses who are crying out for help.
