Help shape future of renewable energy in Mallee

Communities across the Loddon Mallee now have a chance to shape the future of renewable energy in our region as part of the Loddon Mallee Renewable Energy Roadmap (LMRER) project.

The LMRER will provide policy makers and industry with an understanding of the economic potential for renewable energy within the region, and give the community a voice in how they would like to see this transformation take place.

Individuals, community groups, businesses, industry and other stakeholders in the Loddon Mallee region are invited to have their say through an online survey and/or by attending one of 20 workshops across the Loddon Mallee, including two in Mildura next month.

The Mildura workshops will be held in Benetook Room A at the Alfred Deakin Centre on Tuesday 27 August at the following times:

Workshop 1: 2pm – 4pm

Workshop 2: 6pm – 8pm

Online surveys and workshop registrations are now available via Council's Have Your Say page at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/HaveYourSay.

Councillor for Environment and Farming Sustainability Anthony Cirillo said Sunraysia's climate and geography had already made the region a hotspot for renewable energy.

"There's already significant interest in our region as a centre for solar energy, with several major projects currently under way, or in the planning stages," Cr Cirillo said.

"The transition to renewable energy could turn our region into Victoria's clean, green powerhouse.

"This Roadmap project gives our community an important chance to share its hopes and concerns from this transition and maximise the benefits it will bring to our towns, our industries and our environment."

"Councils and communities across the region are working together to drive a positive, sustainable transition to renewable energy. The Roadmap will capture the community's vision for our new energy future," Swan Hill Rural City Council CEO and Loddon Mallee New Energy Taskforce Chair John McLinden said.

The Roadmap is funded by the Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, and is delivered by the Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance.

The community consultation process will continue until October this year. The Roadmap is expected to be finalised at the end of the year.
