Help Shape Mitchell Shire's First Road Safety Strategy

Mitchell Shire Council is inviting the community to have shape its first Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan 2026-2031.

This is the first stage of consultation and the community's input will play a vital role in planning future road safety improvements across the Shire.

Mayor John Dougall said the aim is to better understand local road safety priorities and support the development of a Strategy that works for everyone.

"We want to hear from residents, road users and visitors about their experiences and concerns," Cr Dougall said.

"Whether you drive, walk, cycle or ride - your feedback will help us plan for a safer, more accessible road network."

To support this early input, Council is hosting two drop-in sessions:

  • Wallan Multi-Purpose Centre: Monday 28 July, 11am to 12.30pm, 42-80 Bentinck Street, Wallan
  • Broadford Senior Citizens Hall: Monday 28 July, 2pm to 3.30pm, 125 High Street, Broadford

Council will also host a focus group session with Victoria Police, the Department of Transport and Planning, State Emergency Service, Ambulance Victoria and the Department of Education.

The Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan aims to reduce road crash injuries and work toward zero fatalities by focusing on four key areas:

  • Safer roads - improved engineering and infrastructure
  • Safer speeds - shifting attitudes so speeding is seen as unacceptable
  • Safer people - shared responsibility among all road users
  • Safer shared paths and footpaths

The information gathered will help us draft a Strategy and Action Plan, that will be released for public consultation later in the year.
