- Applications now open for the 2025-26 Community Gardens Grants Program
- Grants of up to $10,000 available for community gardening projects
- Opening of grants coincides with National Community Gardens Day
- Cook Government committed to building inclusive communities and promoting active, healthy lifestyles
Community organisations and local governments are encouraged to branch out and apply for grants of up to $10,000 as part of the State Government's Community Garden Grants Program.
Grants provided through the program support the establishment and development of sustainable and edible community gardens in Western Australia.
Uniquely, this year's program coincides with National Community Gardens Day. On this day, community gardens are invited to open their gates to welcome visitors and demonstrate the benefits that community gardening provides.
Growing the patronage and membership of gardens is a key objective of the Community Gardens Grant program, as it encourages relationships between neighbours and community members, and creates a connection with nature and the environment.
Organisations can apply for funding to support a wide range of garden-related items and services; from plants, seedlings, and fertiliser to planning, design, and training services.
Successful applicants will demonstrate that their project encourages participation of the wider community and is a feasible and sustainable project.
Organisations are encouraged to apply at CommunityGardens Grants Program website.
Applications close at 3pm Friday, 28 November 2025.
35 projects across Western Australia were funded under the 2024-25 program, including:
- $10,000 for the Inglewood Mt Lawley Community Garden to establish a seed saving workshop with community members;
- $6,000 for the Treeby Community Association to build weatherproofing and install a security system at their community garden;
- $10,000 for City of Mandurah to run the Grow It Local Mandurah project, which will help bolster understanding of the benefits of edible growing at home; and
- $9,700 for Exmouth Community Garden to work with local Aboriginal people to share knowledge of local bush tucker and medicinal plants.
Comments attributed to Community Services Minister Matthew Swinbourn:
"Being out and about in the garden with others provides numerous physical and mental health benefits.
"Community gardens provide an opportunity for many Western Australians to do just that, which is why I'm proud that the State Government is once again offering grants of up to $10,000 to local governments and community organisations for community gardens.
"This successful program has supported nearly 100 community gardens to blossom since 2022."
As stated by Midland MLA Steve Catania:
"It's fantastic to see the Swan View Community Garden thriving and continuing to bring locals together through shared purpose and connection.
"These grants are a great way for community groups to get growing - whether that's establishing a new garden or expanding an existing one.
"I'd encourage any local organisation with an interest in sustainability or community building to apply."
