Helping Hand For Healthcare In Kyabram

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is strengthening community healthcare in north-central Victoria, with the construction of new worker accommodation in Kyabram.

Minister for Regional Development, Jaclyn Symes, today announced construction has begun on two new units next to the Kyabram and District Health Service, through Labor Government's Regional Worker Accommodation Fund.

With a growing population, and surrounded by primary industries, access to local healthcare is essential for Kyabram and nearby communities and so is the provision of accommodation for healthcare workers.

These new single bedroom units will help fill a gap in accommodation for visiting staff at the hospital, which has been providing essential healthcare services to the community since 1933.

Timberline Constructions, based at nearby Benalla, will deliver the project, which is expected to be completed in early 2026.

The Regional Worker Accommodation Fund was established to provide housing for regional communities where workers in key industries and their families can struggle to find accommodation.

Similar projects are being delivered across central and northern Victoria, including at Shepparton, where 15 worker apartments will support Goulburn Valley Health staff, and Irymple, where 10 new units will provide housing for healthcare and education workers.

A strong economy needs good jobs in the right places - including Victoria's regions, which account for approximately one quarter of the state's economic output. These projects are helping more people have access to jobs close to home while supporting regional and rural communities to attract the key workers they need to thrive.

With more than $47 billion delivered in rural and regional investment in just over a decade, the Victorian Government is continuing to drive regional economic growth. For more information, visit rdv.vic.gov.au.

As stated by Minister for Regional Development Jaclyn Symes

"Kyabram is an important and growing regional hub, and I'm delighted to see work underway on these new units, that will support skilled workers to live locally."

"The Regional Worker Accommodation Fund is one of the ways the Victorian Government is supporting regional communities, employment and economies."

As stated by Kyabram and District Health Service CEO Anne McEvoy

"We welcome the opportunity this project provides to strengthen our capacity to support key staff. Access to appropriate, short-term accommodation in Kyabram will significantly enhance our ability to attract and retain clinical and support personnel."

"It's a practical and timely initiative that will contribute to the long-term sustainability of high-quality health care in our region."
