Heritage Village unveils Sunset Family Markets in January
Market goers can see the Rockhampton Heritage Village in a whole new light at the first of its Sunset Family Markets, on Saturday 25 January.
Three of the Village's popular Sunday markets in 2020 have been moved to Saturdays, as a trial of a late afternoon / early evening timeslot 4pm to 8pm.
The move is the result of feedback from stall holders, volunteers and market-goers over the last two years, which suggested that markets held in the hotter parts of the year would benefit from a change to a late afternoon-evening timeslot. Two of the sunset markets will be held in the hottest time of the year, and the other, the day before Mothers' Day, enables volunteers and stallholders to spend Mothers' Day with their families.
Chair of Rockhampton Regional Council's Community Services Committee, Cr Rose Swadling said that the 25 January markets was a great time of year to start the Sunset Family Markets trial.
"During summer months, the days can be quite hot, so we've moved our usual Sunday Heritage Village markets for January to Saturday 25 January, 4pm to 8pm, in the cooler part of the day.
"The Heritage Village Markets have an established point of difference with other markets in the region – the active heritage displays and general ambience – and we hope that the trial of the sunset markets will enable people to see the Heritage Village in a whole new light!" she said.
The Sunset Family Markets will take advantage of recently installed lighting, thanks to a grant from the Queensland Government's Works for Queensland program.

Dates for Heritage Village Sunset Family Markets in 2020:
Saturday 25 January 4pm to 8pm
Saturday 9 May 4pm to 8pm
Saturday 28 November 4pm to 8pm
The remaining three markets will be held in the usual Sunday timeslot in 2020:
Sunday 8 March 8am to 1.30pm
Sunday 12 July 8am to 1.30pm
Sunday 13 September 8am to 1.30pm

Cost: Entry is $2 per person with under 14 year olds free. Rides on vintage vehicles cost $3. Closed in shoes are required for the rides. No dogs allowed.
