Heroin worth $12,000 seized, woman charged, NSW

A woman is due to appear in court today charged as part of a police operation targeting drug supply in the Hunter, NSW Police say.

Strike Force Sleepy was formed in July this year to investigate the supply of prohibited drugs – especially heroin – within the Wallsend area.

Following an extensive operation, officers from the Newcastle City Police District arrested a 44-year-old woman in Coonanbarra Road, Wahroonga, about 11pm yesterday (Monday 3 September 2018).

Police will allege when the woman was searched heroin was found in her underwear.

This was seized and will be taken for forensic examination; however, the drugs have an estimated potential street value of up to $12,000.

When a search warrant was executed on a home unit on Cardiff Road, Wallsend, about 2.20am today (Tuesday 4 September 2018), officers seized a mobile telephone, scales, bags, cannabis and cash.

The woman was taken to Hornsby Police Station where she has been charged with

• supply prohibited drug (five counts)

• ongoing supply

• possess indictable quantity of prohibited drug (heroin)

• associated deem supply indictable quantity of prohibited drug

• drive whilst disqualified.

She has been bail refused to Hornsby Local Court today (Tuesday 4 September 2018).
