HEUF Households Saving Up To 80% On Energy Bills

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

The Australian Government's $1 billion Household Energy Upgrades Fund ™ (HEUF) has helped participating households save thousands of dollars a year on energy bills since it launched two years ago.

According to Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) analysis and CSIRO modelling as at October 2025, finance under the HEUF has helped Australian households:

  • cut their energy costs by up to 80%
  • save households an average of between $1,700 and $2,300 a year on energy bills.

As of June 2026, total household savings through HEUF finance is estimated to be up to $16.4 million annually.

The HEUF helps households reduce the upfront cost of energy upgrades, providing discounted finance products for technologies that include:

  • solar photovoltaic (PV) systems
  • batteries
  • insulation
  • double glazed windows
  • energy-efficient electric appliances.

Since the HEUF commenced in May 2024, we have committed over $500 million to participating lenders through the CEFC.

The lenders have committed a further $500 million, bringing total program investment to date to over $1 billion.

There are now 7 participating lenders in the HEUF, with more expected to be announced in 2026 and beyond. These lenders are:

  • Plenti
  • Westpac
  • ING Australia
  • Bank Australia*
  • Commonwealth Bank of Australia
  • Brighte

*The Bank Australia Renovate home loan program is currently paused.
