Stage 2 of the Heyfield Town Tree Plan follows the completion of Stage 1 and the planting of over 270 trees in the northern area of Heyfield last Autumn.
We are committed to growing Heyfield's urban forest through Council's long-term vision and strategy for trees in each of our towns with individual Town Tree Plans that will allow the characteristics of each town to be defined.
A healthy urban forest has shown to be critical in maintaining the health and liveability of our townships through:
- Improving and maintaining the health, well-being and happiness of our residents and visitors
- Increasing property values
- Cleaning air and water
- Attractive tree lined streets encourage people to visit, work and live in our townships
- Sequestering and storing carbon
- Providing habitat for native fauna
- Creating healthier ecosystems
The key driver of this Town Tree Plan is not about removal and replacement of trees or about significant change to the nature of the town. The purpose of the plan is to create and commit to a long-term sustainable vision for the character and amenity of Heyfield by having a plan guiding the urban forest management for the next 50 years.
Property owners are invited to nominate which tree or trees from the preferred list they would like Council to plant.
If you don't mind which of the preferred tree species is planted outside your property, or if we do not receive your completed nomination form by Friday 2 October 2020, Council officers will select a tree on your behalf.
Eligible Properties
Please read the Heyfield Town Tree Plan below to find a map showing all properties eligible for Stage 2 towards the end of the document.
If the map shows a red dot on the naturestrip(s) outside of your property this means it has been selected to have a tree or trees planted. If there is a yellow dot, it means an existing tree will be removed first.
You can select from a number of trees to be planted on your naturestrip. If you believe there is room for more than one tree and only one is marked you may nominate more than one, Council's Arborist will assess the suitability for multiple plantings. Some properties will have two naturestrips (corner lots). Please note where this is the case and select trees for both the front and side if red dots indicate this on the map.
