Hidden history will be revealed when the Old Dubbo Gaol's archives are unlocked as part of the Australian Heritage Festival.
The Old Dubbo Gaol's Artefact Talk will showcase the objects that defined life on both sides of the bars and you'll be able to discover a hand-picked selection of rare artefacts, from ingenious contraband to rare official prison records.
Old Dubbo Gaol's Chris Anemaat said, the gaol has a such rich history and the stories we'll share at this talk as part of the Australian Heritage Festival are sure to interest both history buffs and true crime lovers."
"The talk will explore the history behind some of the artefacts in the Old Dubbo Gaol and attendees will also see some artefacts that we currently don't have on display at present," Mr Anemaat said.
The artefacts in our collection reveal the everyday realities, struggles, and secrets of both the warders and the prisoners at the Old Dubbo Gaol.
"This artefact talk is a great opportunity to learn more about the hidden history of the Old Dubbo Gaol," Mr Anemaat said.
The Artefact Talk will be held on Wednesday 6 May 2026 from 5:30pm – 7:30pm.
This event is free for Dubbo residents and will take place in the Gallows Gallery inside the Old Dubbo Gaol. Just show proof of residency for admission as part of the locals discount program. For those outside the Local Government Area the talk is free with paid admission.
