High-Range DUI Charge After Car Crash Near Leura Tracks

A man has been charged with high-range drink driving after his car crashed through a fence bringing down power lines, and coming to land beside train lines in the Blue Mountains overnight.

Officers attached to Blue Mountains Police Area Command were called to the intersection of Railway Parade and Blackheath Street, Leura, shortly before 10pm (Sunday 22 June 2025), following reports of a single-vehicle crash.

They found a 41-year-old man was not injured but his sedan was wedged 2m from the westbound rail lines. About 60m of cabling was also dislodged by the crash.

The alleged driver was subjected to a roadside breath test, which returned with a positive result. Police will allege when the vehicle was searched they located a substance suspected of being cocaine, as well as cannabis and prescription medication. The man also subjected to a roadside drug test which returned a positive result.

He was arrested and taken to Katoomba Police Station for a breath analysis, which returned an alleged reading of 0.162. He also returned a positive roadside drug test.

The man, from Wentworth Falls, has been charged with high-range PCA, possess a prohibited drug, and custody of a knife in a public place.

He was granted condition bail to appear in Katoomba Local Court on 7 July 2025.

His licence was suspended on the spot.

Further charges are dependent on the outcome of the drug test.
