A man has been charged with high-range drink driving after an alleged road-rage incident in Sydney's CBD last night.
Police have been told the incident began about 5.55pm (Sunday 12 August 2019), when a 22-year-old man driving towards the city across the Anzac Bridge observed an Audi Q5 allegedly driving erratically, swerving between lanes and breaking harshly, narrowly missing a concrete dividing strip.
While both vehicles were stopped in traffic on Bathurst Street, the 22-year-old man attempted to speak to the Audi's driver about his driving.
Police will allege that the Audi's driver became aggressive, threatening the man and getting out and banging on his window.
Both drove away, and a short time later while stopped in traffic, the Audi's driver attempted to climb onto the other car's bonnet.
It's also alleged that the Audi drove away and continued driving erratically, nearly missing pedestrians and a cyclist near the intersection of Bathurst and George Streets.
Police were contacted and a short time later, with the assistance of City of Sydney street safety cameras, officers from Sydney City Police Area Command stopped the Audi at the intersection of College and Liverpool Streets, and arrested the 43-year-old driver.
The Bellevue Hill man was taken to Day Street Police Station where he was subject to a breath analysis which returned a reading of 0.213.
He was charged with dangerous driving, high-range PCA, and intimidation; his licence was immediately suspended.
He was granted conditional bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 11 September 2019.
