High Range Speeding Offence At Dalveen

Officers from Stanthorpe Highway Patrol Unit have fined a Lawnton teenager after he was allegedly caught driving 47 kilometres over the speed limit at Dalveen on 17 May.

Around 12.40pm, police were conducting patrols when they detected a 2012 Nissan Nivara dual utility allegedly travelling at 147km/h in a 100 km/h zone along the New England Highway.

The driver, a 17-year-old P Plater was issued with a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km.

He was fined $1919 along with a loss of eight demerit points, and had his licence suspended for six months.

Warwick Patrol Group Acting Inspector Gerard Brady said reckless speeding behaviour puts lives at risk and will not be tolerated.

"Every time a driver chooses to speed, they reduce their ability to react, stop safely and avoid a crash. What may feel like saving a few minutes behind the wheel can have devastating and irreversible consequences for everyone on the road," said Acting Inspector Gerard Brady.

"Police will continue to target dangerous speeding behaviour because we know the devastating impact road trauma has on families and communities.

"Our message is simple - slow down, drive responsibly and get to your destination safely."

The Queensland Police Service is committed to reducing the number of lives lost on our roads.

As part of Operation Interpose, police are bolstering high-visibility patrols right across the state, engaging with road users and enforcing the laws to deter dangerous driving behaviours.

Queenslanders can expect police – anywhere, anytime. However, enforcement alone cannot stop all dangerous driving behaviours.

Driving under the influence, speeding, driving distracted or while fatigued, or not wearing a seatbelt puts your life – and the lives of others – at serious risk. These dangerous behaviours will not be tolerated.

Road safety starts with you.
